You find (or receive an email about) a lucrative part time work at home job...

The first variation is to be a "mystery shopper". For your first assignment you receive a check for several thousand dollars and are asked to cash it and keep 10% as your payment and send the rest back via a money transfer service. Your job is to evaluate the money transfer server and how they treat you.

Of course the real trick is to get you to send cash from a bad check... so the joke is on you.

Another variation is as a money processor for someone in another country. they will have a nice list of reasons why they need someone and will offer 10% or so. It's the same scam. You get the check(s), cash them, transfer the money and then find out the checks are bad.
